Mercedes Jones Week -> Day 7: Head Canons For Her Future

With nothing but her talent and a dream, Mercedes moved to Los Angeles to become a star. She graduated from UCLA at the top of her class with a degree in Music Performance. Along with academic success also came success in the entertainment industry which Mercedes managed to balance while attending college. Following her brief stint as a backup singer at an Indie label, a spectacular performance at a local talent show led to her being heard by a talented music producer who was so impressed with her voice, he offered to give her free studio time. After about a year of work on her demo tape, they eventually shopped the tape around to many popular labels. The response to the tape was extremely favorable and Mercedes received many contract offers but she eventually signed with Universal Music Group. Her debut album dropped a year and a half later.

The following year, when she was fresh out of college, she not only received the Grammy for Best New Artist, but also took home gramophones for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Album of the Year- all at the tender age of 21! Her date for the evening was none other than her dedicated boyfriend of 5 years, Sam Evans. Just when Mercedes thought the night couldn’t get any better, Sam proposed to her, of course reminding her that she said she’d be ready for marriage after winning her first Grammy. The elated young woman said yes and about two years later after Sam graduated from Art school, the young lovers wed. At the time, people had told them that it wasn’t wise to marry so young. And it had been very difficult especially with Mercedes putting in several hours, blood, sweat and tears into her blossoming musical career and Sam working on his many creative endeavors but they followed their hearts. Years later, they laugh at the naysayers because they are now happier together than they had ever been.

Seven more years down the line, Sam now owns his own production company as well as 50% of Pixar and 25% of Nickelodeon and Mercedes has four platinum albums. The power couple shares six Oscar awards (2 of which are Sam’s for Best Animated Short and Best Animated Feature and 4 for Mercedes who won Best Supporting Actress in 2019 and 2021 and Best Actress in 2022 and 2024, the latest for a biographical film about Ella Fitzgerald). The power couple bring in about $750 million a year and now live in a huge mansion in Beverly Hills with their two daughters Jasmine Alana and Naomi Grace and their puppies, Rocko and Lulu. Mercedes is currently starring on Broadway in the revival of the musical Dreamgirls and is also slated to star in race bent productions of West Side Story and Grease. Mercedes’ beautiful daughters and gracious husband Sam continue to stand by her side and support her endeavors as her bright star continues to rise. With multiple Grammys, Oscars and Tonys to her name, Mercedes Jones has come a long way from swaying in the background and belting out glory notes for the New Directions.
